About the Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket

The Ōtūmoetai Social Supermarket was established by the Linkt Community Trust in partnership with Foodstuffs and Ōtūmoetai Baptist Church in November 2022, supporting their dream to see

a connected, kai secure community in Ōtūmoetai , a place where the community has access to affordable, safe, nutritious kai.

Linkt Community Trust believes that strengthening and connecting the existing community support networks through the addition of a social supermarket is key in achieving food security.

We believe that everyone has something to bring to the table, getting through hardship together with a “pot-luck” rather than a “soup kitchen” approach. Linkt Community Trust are focusing on long-term community development not emergency relief, enhancing mana and engagement.

We believe the local community is the best place to address local needs and we are developing knowledge and skills to access kai, as much as possible locally. We are about finding solutions together as we walk alongside people facing hardship. Prevention is better than cure, addressing issues at the top of the cliff and helping stop the domino effect, where one event can lead to a series of events that are much more difficult to come back from.
