Otautahi Social Services is an Iwi Approved Social Service provider.

We wrap our whanau support work services around families of children referred to us by Government Agencies, the community or self referral.

~ Provide in home whanau support services in the community.

~ To support the whanau while they are completing their programmes.

~ To support current whanau to meet their FGC outcomes.

~ To support, awhi and advocate. Respite care for whanau whom we are working with (condition apply).

~ After hours emergency available to whanau

Te Timatanga - Origins

1936, the Otautahi (Christchurch) Runanga was established by Mana Whenua to provide for the social, cultural and spiritual needs of Ngai Tahu. The underlying philosophy of the Runanga was and still is “Aroha ki te Tangata”, care and concern for the wellbeing of all people.

Te Kaupapa - The Basis

1986 Maatua Whangai established in Otautahi

1988 July, Otautahi Maatua Whangai established at Warwick Street.

1993 July, Otautahi Social Services established by Te Runaka ki Otautahi o Kai Tahu as an approved child and family support provider with a priority to Ngai Tahu and to the Maori community.

1998 31 January, Te Runaka ki Otautahi o Kai Tahu exited Social Services.

1998 1 February, Otautahi Social Services Trust, an approved child and family support provider under sections 396 and 403 of the CYFS Act continues to maintain the service.
